Introduction to Cookbook Club

This is a picture of half of my bookshelf. I own over 100 cookbooks, and I love every one of them. On the rare occasion, I purchase a cookbook that I don’t have a connection with, I try to find it a new home hoping the next person will fall in love with it. I’m often looking for cookbooks at the library, borrowing books from friends and neighbors, wandering through book stores. Some of my favorite books I’ve gotten from rummaging through boxes at yard sales.

I approach a cookbook like any other book, I have to read it cover to cover. I'm grateful when an author sparks my interest to learn about people, their ethnicity, values, and culture. That all happens through recipes and the stories behind them. Good cookbooks can be so much more than a place to store a recipe, they can take you on a journey to another country through food, they can help you create holiday memories for generations through food, they can spark conversation, encourage learning and bring people together.

I truly believe that a group of strangers can connect over something as simple as a recipe, and slowly this group of strangers can become friends.

I’m hoping this cookbook club will help lead us back to community cooking, sharing more than just recipes, but the stories behind them, and sharing the precious gift of time.

Go support a local bookstore, go to the library, borrow from a neighbor, or if you're like me dust off all those cookbooks on your shelves. Let's go have fun in the kitchen!
