Holiday Snack Mix

In partnership with Our Family® I created this easy and fun to make Snack mix. This is more of a technique than a real recipe, so use this as a guideline to create something yummy and festive for your next party or pot-luck!

This recipe is inspired by all the open, half-eaten cereal boxes that were starting to clutter up my pantry. We are a cereal loving family. Hot cereal, cold cereal, with milk, without milk, we love it all! And it's not just for breakfast, most of the time it becomes an afternoon or late-night snack!

The problem is that I can’t resist a cereal sale and tend to wind up with more than we can eat before they expire. This is why I often get creative with those half-eaten boxes! I love a snack that combines both salty and sweet together, plus allows you to add in some extras to add sweetness, color and allows you to customize the mix for your holiday or theme. This one is a red, white, and blue theme, that I made for both the Fourth of July and again for Labor Day. The little kids loved it!

I’ve also made this recipe before using candy corn, mini peanut butter cups, themed colored sprinkles, and even chocolate covered raisins! Peanuts or pistachios would be great in this too! Get creative with this one, the possibilities are endless.

When I use almond bark, I like to create recipes that use the entire package which is usually 20oz (depending on the brand). I don’t need to have random squares of bark cluttering up my pantry or be wasted if they go unused. For 20oz of melted bark, you will want to have between 10-12 cups combined of the main ingredients.

This is the perfect recipe to get the kids involved with making. They can start by helping to clean out your pantry and find all those almost empty cereal boxes!

This is more of a technique than a real recipe. Have fun switching out any of the ingredients. Perfect for kids to help assemble!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Line a 12x18 baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the first four ingredients.
  3. In a glass or other microwave-safe bowl, melt the almond bark according to package directions. All microwaves vary on power, keep an eye on the chocolate. It can easily burn if your microwave is too powerful. There is no way to save this product once it burns. The instructions on my package said to warm for 90 seconds then stir every 30 seconds. In total it took 3 minutes including the stirring time in between.
  4. While still warm, pour the melted almond bark into the bowl with the first four ingredients. Toss gently, to evenly coat cereal and pretzel mixture. Try not to break up the cereal and pretzels.
  5. Spread the mixture on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Immediately sprinkle the candy-coated chocolate candy and the mini chocolate chips (or sprinkles if using) on top of the warm mixture.
  7. Allow mixture to cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to one week.

Notes

Customize this for any holiday by switching the 3 cups of the add-in to match your holiday or party theme! Sprinkles, candy corn, mini peanut butter cups, the possibilities are endless!
